Ara Solis

Tells the tradition that romans found in that place an altar to the sun (Ara Solis) built by the phoenicians and which Apostle Santiago ordered to destroy a little later.

The memory of this altar still exist in the fisterrans legends and in the name of the most typical square from the ancient village. It’s said also that the chalice and the host in Galicia shield, representation of the Holy Grial, proceede from a christian shaped of the pagan altar where the chalice symbolized the sea horizont and the host the sun in the sunset. A stone shaped as a square table placed several meters in the sea, at the cape headland, received also the name of Ara Solis, maybe due its ressembling to an altar table.
