Introduction
Fisterra and Nachikatsuura seal their twinning with an unforgettable broadcast.
The towns of Fisterra and Nachikatsuura have been twinned since November 2023, and they definitively consolidated their union with a unique event: the simultaneous broadcast of the sunset in the western Finis Terrae and the sunrise at the eastern end of Eurasia. This extraordinary phenomenon, which only happens twice a year, was a symbol of the special connection between both communities.
The event celebrated the cultural wealth of two countries where the sun plays a prominent place in their ancient traditions, and brought together two Pilgrimage routes declared World Heritage Sites: the Santiago´s Way in Galicia and the Kumano Kodo in Japan.
Galicians, Japanese and viewers from all over the world enjoyed this live experience through numerous channels and platforms with a notable international impact. The 45-minute broadcast was masterfully directed by Jorge Mira, a physicist and professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela. The event also included the participation of prominent authorities such as Miguel Gómez, he is the Minister Counselor of the Spanish Embassy in Japan; Valentín González Formoso, he is the President of the Provincial Council in A Coruña; and Áurea Domínguez, she is the Fisterra´s Mayor.
The event was also attended by numerous personalities, including Xosé Merelles, he is the Galicia´s Tourism Director; Xosé Regueira, he is the Vice President of the Provincial Council in A Coruña and responsible for the Tourism area, and he was the initiative promoter; and representatives of the municipalities in Costa da Morte and the Professional Tourism Association in Costa da Morte (APTCM).
